WHAT IS IN THE EUROFIGHTER DEAL? DETAILS OF THE TURKEY-UK AGREEMENT
Show Summary

Turkey and the United Kingdom have officially signed a comprehensive technical and logistical support contract for the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets. Signed in London by Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and UK Defence Secretary John Healey, the agreement is evaluated as a major milestone in strengthening Turkey’s aerial combat capabilities.

This contract serves as the critical next phase of the landmark procurement agreement signed in October 2025 for 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets.

What Does the Agreement Cover? Under the scope of the new multi-billion-pound agreement, BAE Systems will provide extensive support to Turkey. The key elements to be provided include:

  • Spare parts and essential support equipment

  • Comprehensive engineer and pilot training programs (covering 10 pilots and nearly 100 ground crew technicians)

  • High-fidelity flight simulators

  • Advanced electronic warfare (EW) capabilities

This robust support package is of critical importance to ensure the aircraft can operate effectively and seamlessly upon integration into the military.

Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and UK Defence Secretary John Healey signed a major technical and logistical support contract for Turkey’s upcoming fleet of 20 Eurofighter Typhoons.

3 Years of Intensive Technical Support BAE Systems will provide direct technical support during the first three years following the aircraft’s entry into service. According to defense officials, “The support provided during this period aims to increase the level of operational readiness and guarantee the effective use of the systems.” Furthermore, this process is designed to help Turkey systematically develop its own sovereign maintenance and support infrastructure.

Enhancing Turkey’s Independent Capabilities One of the most critical objectives of the agreement is to bolster Turkey’s strategic independence in the defense sector. The agreement targets a gradual increase in “Turkey’s independent support capabilities.” In this context, critical technology transfer and industrial knowledge acquisition are brought to the forefront.

Continuation of the 20-Aircraft Procurement Deal This contract directly builds upon the main agreement signed in October 2025, which finalized the purchase of 20 Eurofighter Typhoons. Regarding the jets themselves:

  • Manufacturing is actively continuing at BAE Systems facilities in the UK and across partner nations.

  • The first deliveries to the Turkish Air Force are scheduled to commence in 2030.

Statement from BAE Systems Simon Barnes, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems Air, evaluated the agreement, stating: “Türkiye’s acquisition of Typhoon strengthens this partnership and enhances the country’s advanced combat air capabilities.” He added, “We’re delighted to play a key role in enhancing Türkiye’s readiness to operate the new aircraft through this training and support agreement.”

Strategic Importance The agreement has once again highlighted the pivotal role the Eurofighter platform plays in the security architecture of Europe and the Middle East. With this ongoing process, Turkey is expected to:

  • Modernize its air force fleet

  • Increase its access to and interoperability with NATO platforms

  • Significantly bolster its long-range air combat capabilities
