US and Iran Agree to Extend Temporary Ceasefire: Additional Time for Permanent Peace

The United States and Iran have reached an agreement to extend their temporary ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan. The objective is to secure a permanent peace agreement based on the Islamabad Memorandum signed on June 17.

ISLAMABAD / TEHRAN – Pakistani officials and sources close to the mediation process have reported that the US and Iran have agreed to extend their temporary ceasefire. Under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum signed on June 17, which stipulated a 60-day negotiation period, the parties aim to buy time for diplomacy to achieve a permanent peace agreement.

While detailed contacts continue regarding how long the ceasefire, originally set to expire on August 17, will be extended, Pakistani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi confirmed that direct and indirect channels of dialogue remain open to ensure stability in the region.

“Ground Invasion Claims are Delusional”

As steps to extend the ceasefire indicate a trend toward de-escalating military tensions between the two nations, Iranian Border Guards Commander Brigadier General Ali Akbar Javidan strongly denied press claims that the US is preparing for a potential ground invasion of Iran.

Describing the ground operation scenarios—which surfaced following past US actions targeting civilian infrastructure in the south and rhetoric regarding Kharg Island—as “delusional,” Javidan stated:

“The movements of the enemies cannot shake the authority and security of the country. Any attack on Iranian territory will not be permitted. The borders of the country are secure and stable; our border guards are deployed with full readiness.”

Javidan also emphasized that despite the loss of commanders in recent conflicts, the operational capacity of the Iranian Armed Forces remains completely intact.

Critical Security and Diplomacy Summit in Tehran

Overshadowed by military and diplomatic developments, Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi visited Tehran to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The meeting highlighted the “privileged relations” between the two countries and emphasized regional security.

President Pezeshkian stated that they are ready for steps to secure the mutual interests of both countries and strengthen regional stability, emphasizing the need to deepen cooperation in political, economic, and security fields. Pakistani Minister Naqvi reiterated Islamabad’s serious determination to comprehensively develop relations with Iran.
