Why the Longbow Radar Matters

Longbow LLC is a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. Its AN/APG-78 radar is the fire control radar mounted on a mast above the Apache’s main rotor, letting the helicopter scan, classify and cue its missiles at targets. For the US Army and dozens of Apache operators it is one of the system’s most critical components.

Apache orders have also been in the news elsewhere this month: see our report on Israel’s contract for 12 AH-64Es.
