TEKEVER Sells Uncrewed Aircraft to US Special Operations Command Without Naming the Model

US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has bought uncrewed aerial systems from Portuguese manufacturer TEKEVER for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, the company announced. TEKEVER issued the announcement on 26 October 2026, datelined Fayetteville, North Carolina. It did not disclose the model, the number of systems, the configuration or the contract value.
The company said the purchase followed validation, acceptance testing, operator training and extensive flights at several locations. No US government statement had been found at the time of writing, so everything below about the deal comes from TEKEVER.
What TEKEVER has and has not said
The release describes the systems as modular: an aircraft, mission-specific payloads, communications and AI-enabled mission software. The company said they are meant to provide ISR capability in demanding operational environments, and that the design was refined over repeated flight cycles and user feedback.
Chief executive Ricardo Mendes called the purchase an important milestone in a relationship built through rigorous testing and open dialogue, with “a clear focus on delivering effective capability.” That is the company’s own characterisation of the relationship.

AR3 or AR5 is still an open question
TEKEVER has not said which aircraft USSOCOM bought. Its only earlier USSOCOM announcement, in March 2025, concerned an exercise at Camp Roberts, California, built around the AR3. The company said that exercise showed operation in electronically contested environments with electro-optical/infrared, radar and signals-intelligence payloads.
DroneXL, which first flagged the missing detail, argues the vertical take-off AR3 fits the release’s “highly deployable” language better than the larger AR5, which needs a runway. That is the outlet’s inference, not a company statement. Treat the AR3 as a plausible candidate, nothing more.
| Feature | AR3 | AR5 |
|---|---|---|

A growing US footprint ahead of the sale
DroneXL reports that TEKEVER opened its first US office in Fayetteville, near Fort Bragg, on 18 May 2026, the first day of SOF Week in Tampa. The same outlet lists a $74 million funding round in November 2024 and the first close of a $580 million Series D at a $6.4 billion valuation in September 2026. We have not independently confirmed those figures.
The USSOCOM sale arrives amid a busy autumn for the company. DroneXL cites the British Army’s Corvus contract, worth up to £400 million and signed on 16 September 2026, and the Bundeswehr’s first delivery, a heavy-lift aircraft, on 13 October as TEKEVER opened a German headquarters in Munich.
One policy point may matter. DroneXL notes that the FCC added foreign-made drones to its Covered List in December 2025 and proposed import limits on military-grade foreign drones in July 2026, with an exemption for federal purchases. If accurate, a USSOCOM buy sits outside that restriction. That reading is analysis, not something either party has said.
