Leidos Holdings is a science and technology contractor headquartered in Reston, Virginia, that provides IT modernisation, intelligence support, air traffic control systems, security screening, managed health services and defense products, including autonomous ships such as Sea Hunter, to the US government and allies. It traces its roots to Science Applications Incorporated, founded in 1969, and has used the Leidos name since 2013.

The company employed about 47,000 people on 2 January 2026 and reported revenue of $17.2 billion for fiscal 2025, according to its annual report. Revenue from the Department of War and the US Intelligence Community accounted for about 49% of the total. Its chief executive is Tom Bell, who has led the company since May 2023.

Leidos Revenue and Financial Results

Fiscal 2025 revenue rose 3% despite a six-week government shutdown in the fourth quarter. Under its former structure the segments were National Security & Digital ($7.6 billion), Health & Civil ($5.1 billion), Commercial & International ($2.3 billion) and Defense Systems ($2.2 billion). In the second quarter of 2026 Homeland revenue rose 32%, helped by $141 million from ENTRUST, while Health fell 8% on lower medical disability exam volumes.

What Are Leidos’ Main Products and Programmes?

Most Leidos revenue is services, but it also builds hardware. The security business says more than 30,000 of its screening products are deployed in over 120 countries, including people scanners, baggage scanners and cargo inspection systems. Leidos is the primary supplier to US Customs and Border Protection of mobile, non-intrusive inspection systems. In air traffic control it works with the FAA and with air navigation service providers abroad, and it delivers a single electronic health record to Department of War and VA facilities.

Defense work is concentrated in what is now the Defense segment. In maritime systems, Leidos designed the 132-foot Sea Hunter trimaran, christened in Portland, Oregon, on 7 April 2016 under DARPA’s ACTUV programme. Development passed to the Office of Naval Research in 2018, and a sister vessel, Seahawk, followed in 2021. The company also makes structures and thermal protection for hypersonic boost-glide missiles, tests hypersonic vehicles, and builds air-defense and persistent-surveillance radars. Its Dynetics unit in Huntsville, acquired in 2020, built the X-61 Gremlins air-launched, air-recoverable drone for DARPA and bid for NASA’s Artemis lunar lander.

Who Owns Leidos and What Has It Acquired?

Leidos is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol LDOS. It has grown by acquisition. In 2016 it merged with Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions business, and in January 2020 it bought Dynetics for about $1.65 billion. It added Gibbs & Cox, a naval architecture firm, in 2021 and Kudu Dynamics, a cyber software company, in 2025.

On 30 March 2026 Leidos completed the roughly $2.4 billion purchase of ENTRUST Solutions Group from Kohlberg, adding more than 3,100 engineers and consultants serving utilities. On 15 April 2026 it announced plans to combine its Security Enterprise Solutions unit, about 1,500 employees and $625 million of projected 2026 revenue, with Analogic in a joint venture in which Leidos keeps a minority stake. Closing is expected in the second half of 2026.

In the second quarter of 2026 Leidos booked $4.9 billion of awards. The largest were a $475 million Air Force follow-on for the F-16 avionics intermediate shop, a $456 million GSA contract for Military OneSource, a $350 million Air Force electronic warfare support modification and an $88 million Navy award for experimental hypersonic glide vehicles under MACH-TB 2.0.
