What Port Alpha Will Build

The yard is planned to build autonomous and autonomy-capable ships, crewed vessels and Landing Craft Utility vessels for the US Navy. Saronic already holds production contracts for the 24-foot Corsair autonomous vessel and for the landing craft.

Saronic’s 180-foot Marauder is separate. The Navy awarded it a production contract under its Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel marketplace on September 30, an award we covered in our report on the Navy’s MUSV buy.

The Navy has struggled with delivery delays at established yards. A new yard designed around autonomous vessels is one way to add capacity, though the company has not yet built anything at the site. That reading is analysis.
