Naval Group Offers Denmark Locally Built FDI Frigates

France’s Naval Group has offered Denmark FDI-class frigates built in Denmark, with maintenance carried out by local industry. On October 21 the company signed three MoUs with Danish firms in Copenhagen; local construction and maintenance would apply only if the FDI is selected.

Three MoUs

Naval Group signed MoUs with Copenhagen Global (drones and autonomous systems), Saab Danmark (communications) and SH Defence (R&D on modular mission modules and launch-and-recovery systems). It says it has worked with more than 20 Danish companies over 15 years, is in contact with almost 50, and invites more suppliers to join its proposal.

The Greek Precedent

Naval Group cites Greece, where it has brought more than 75 Greek partners into its supply chain for the FDI and other programmes.

The Rival Bid

Babcock has a competing Danish-industry offer through Danske Flådeskibe, which brings together OMT Group, Terma, PensionDanmark and Semco Maritime. Babcock estimates the arrangement could support around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs in Denmark.

Note

No selection has been made; the local construction and maintenance pledge depends on the FDI being chosen.
