Sikorsky Packs Four Nomad 100 Drones Into One Shipping Container

Sikorsky has introduced the Nomad 100 fast pack, a containerized kit that fits four Nomad 100 drones and their support equipment into one 20-foot shipping container. The Lockheed Martin company announced it on October 12, 2026, as the Association of the US Army annual meeting opened in Washington.

Sikorsky describes the kit as a way to launch vertical takeoff and landing drones from ships, vehicle staging areas and improvised landing zones. The release names no customer, and no order has been announced.

“By packaging aircraft, mission command, communications, power and sustainment into a single containerized system, we are making it easier to move, employ and reposition VTOL UAS capability with urgency and flexibility,” said Rich Benton, Sikorsky vice president and general manager.

The company says the US military needs to expand its inventory of autonomous aircraft with compact systems that can be deployed, sustained and moved quickly in contested environments. It says the kit could support ISR-T (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting), light attack and contested logistics.

How the Container Is Meant to Work

The container is designed to be repacked after a mission, loaded onto a compatible transport vehicle and moved to a new site for follow-on operations, the company said. It adds that the built-in communications, power and sustainment equipment is meant to extend mission availability with less outside support.

The two-tier readiness figure applies to what Sikorsky calls the “planned configuration”. It is a design goal, not a demonstrated result. Defense News noted that the release did not say whether a fast pack has actually been built.

What the Nomad 100 Is

The Nomad 100 is a Group 3 drone with an 18-foot wingspan. It uses Sikorsky’s rotor blown wing design, a twin proprotor layout that the company says combines a helicopter’s vertical lift and hover with the speed, range and endurance of a fixed-wing aircraft. It flies with the MATRIX autonomy software.

Sikorsky developed the aircraft with funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) under the Early VTOL Aircraft Demonstration (EVADE) programme. On July 22, 2026 the company said it had finished initial ground and flight testing, with an intensive flight test campaign at a government facility to follow. It also said DARPA chose MATRIX for all five aircraft in EVADE.

The Nomad family was introduced on October 6, 2025, after an extended flight test of the 10.3-foot Nomad 50 prototype in March 2025.

Nomad Compared With Other VTOL Drones

Sikorsky has not published payload, range or endurance for the Nomad 100, so a like-for-like comparison is not possible yet. The table lists only what the companies and public references have stated.

The Nomad 100 fast pack is a packaging and deployment concept built around an aircraft that is still in test. That reading is analysis, not a company claim. Sikorsky also says the Nomad family is meant to complement crewed aircraft such as the Black Hawk, a line we covered in Sikorsky’s flexible Black Hawk contract with the US Army.

What Sikorsky Has Not Said

The release does not give a price, a customer, a delivery date or any number of fast packs ordered. It does not state whether a military service is evaluating the kit. Payload, range and endurance for the Nomad 100 remain unpublished, and the company notes that the capabilities depend on customer configuration.

Lockheed Martin says Nomad aircraft predominantly use hybrid-electric propulsion, with larger variants on a conventional drivetrain. Which powertrain the Nomad 100 carries in the fast pack was not specified in the release.

What to watch
The first signs of real demand will be a named customer, an evaluation or an order, none of which has been announced. Also watch the Nomad 100 flight test campaign at a government facility under DARPA’s EVADE programme, which should show whether the aircraft can meet the readiness targets the container is built around.

Nomad 100 Fast Pack FAQ

What is the Nomad 100 fast pack?

A containerized kit from Sikorsky that holds four Nomad 100 drones, mission-command software, power, communications and sustainment equipment in one 20-foot ISO container.

In the planned configuration, two aircraft can be mission ready in under 15 minutes and two more within four to six hours, according to Sikorsky. This is a design goal.

Has anyone ordered the fast pack?

No order or evaluation has been announced. Defense News said the release did not say whether any military service had ordered or was evaluating one.

What is the Nomad 100?

A Group 3, 18-foot-wingspan VTOL drone using a rotor blown wing design and MATRIX autonomy, developed with DARPA funding under the EVADE programme.

What can the Nomad 100 carry or how far can it fly?

Sikorsky has not released payload, range or endurance figures for the Nomad 100.
