The main structural difference is focus. Sarsılmaz is a broad military small-arms supplier whose rifles and machine guns sit in Turkish Armed Forces inventories. CANiK grew its reputation through high-volume pistol exports, especially to the United States. The company itself highlighted that SYS became the third-largest pistol exporter to the US by value in one reporting period. On US civilian volume, the evidence points to CANiK. On product breadth and documented Turkish military integration, it points to Sarsılmaz.

What the numbers show
- Size: practically identical barrel length and overall length; the METE SFT is slightly taller.
- Capacity: CANiK is ahead. Its standard magazine holds 18 rounds, with an optional 20-round magazine, against a maximum of 19 for the SAR9 Gen3.
- Weight: a like-for-like comparison is not possible, because CANiK does not state whether its 789 g figure includes the magazine.
- Data transparency: Sarsılmaz publishes trigger pull, three separate weight values, rifling and muzzle velocity. CANiK’s product page gives fewer values.
- Institutional use: the SAR9 SOCOM has a documented US police adoption. We found no equivalent official US police adoption for the METE SFT that we could verify.
Name confusion: SAR9 METE vs CANiK METE
Sarsılmaz also sells a model called the SAR9 METE. It is a Sarsılmaz pistol with a 113.5 mm barrel and 650 g weight, and it has no link to CANiK’s METE family. Searches for “METE pistol” can return either brand, so check the manufacturer name.
Which company is bigger?
Neither company publishes revenue, production volume or headcount in a way that allows a reliable size comparison. Sarsılmaz describes its 120,000 m² Düzce plant as Europe’s largest weapons production centre. CANiK points to its export volumes and US market share. Without audited public figures, we do not rank one as larger.
