What Is the Otokar COBRA II? Overview, History and Development

The COBRA II succeeds the original COBRA of 1996, with a longer hull, V-shaped bottom and more armour. A 300 hp Cummins ISB6.7 diesel and an Allison automatic gearbox give a road speed of about 110 km/h and a range of about 700 km at roughly 8.7 tonnes. The crew of two carries up to nine troops, and protection is STANAG 4569 Level 2-3, rising to Level 3-4 with add-on armour.

The vehicle has been used in Operations Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch and Peace Spring and in counter-terrorism work. Armament options include Aselsan SARP remote stations, 20 mm turrets and a 120 mm mortar.
