What Is the FNSS PARS 8×8? Overview, History and Development

The PARS 8×8 entered Turkish service in the early 2000s, and the PARS II and PARS III of 2009 improved payload and armour. A Caterpillar C13 diesel of about 490 hp gives a top speed of about 105 km/h and a range of about 700 km. The 8×8 weighs about 24 tonnes and carries up to 11 troops, with options from a 12.7 mm remote station to 25-30 mm turrets and a 120 mm mortar carrier.

Türkiye uses the PARS with the Land Forces, Gendarmerie and special forces, and 4×4 versions served in Operation Peace Spring. Oman ordered about 172 PARS III vehicles, reportedly, and Malaysia’s AV8 Gempita, built by DefTech with FNSS technology transfer, is a derivative. The PARS IV is the newer 8×8 with an improved chassis and mine and IED protection. Rivals include Otokar ARMA, Patria AMV and Boxer.
