Dingo 2
The Dingo 2 is a German 4×4 mine-protected armoured vehicle built by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (now KNDS Deutschland) on a Unimog chassis, in service since 2004. Over 1,000 Dingos have been built, and the Bundeswehr operates about 600 Dingo 2.
Overview
The Dingo, formally the Allschutz-Transport-Fahrzeug (ATF), was developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann in Kassel on the Unimog U 5000 chassis. The Dingo 1 entered service in 1999 with the Bundeswehr in SFOR, and the Dingo 2 followed from 2004. It has a V-shaped hull for mine and IED protection, ballistic protection at Levels 3–4 and an optional 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm remote weapon station. Weight ranges from 8.8 to 12.5 t, speed up to 100 km/h and range about 1,000 km.
More than 1,000 have been built, with the Bundeswehr operating about 600 Dingo 2 and further users including Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Denmark, Hungary and the Netherlands. The Dingo 2 saw action in Afghanistan with ISAF, in Kosovo and in Mali, where it survived IED strikes with crews alive. Variants include command, ambulance, CBRN reconnaissance, electronic warfare and engineer versions. Germany plans replacements with the Caracal and Mungo, and with Patria 6×6 and Boxer for heavier roles. It is not amphibious.
