Army Picks Five Companies to Compete for PrSM Increment 4

The US Army has selected Anduril, Castelion, Lockheed Martin, Mach Industries and RTX to develop prototype missiles for Increment 4 of the Precision Strike Missile, known as PrSM. The agreements were announced on September 30, 2026, through Redstone Arsenal.

Each company received an Other Transaction Authority agreement. The Army did not disclose values. The goal is a missile launched from the M142 HIMARS that can reach at least 1,000 kilometres.

The Army reopened the competition in April. It had earlier awarded work to Lockheed Martin and a team of RTX and Northrop Grumman in 2023, according to Breaking Defense. Three newcomers, Anduril, Castelion and Mach Industries, have now been added to the field.

How the Fly-Off Will Work

Development will end in a competitive fly-off and down-select, the Army said. Breaking Defense reported the first fly-off and initial down-select in fiscal 2027, a final fly-off in fiscal 2028 and a potential final down-select in fiscal 2030. Designs that succeed become eligible for further agreements.

The requirement also calls for an open systems architecture so hardware and software can be changed without redesigning the whole missile, and for compatibility with Indo-Pacific operations.

Lockheed’s June test points to a ramjet approach for extending range, though the company has not said whether that design is its Increment 4 entry. That reading is analysis. The Army did not describe any of the five designs.
