Türkiye, Azerbaijan Sign $500M+ Defence Deals at ADEX 2026
Türkiye and Azerbaijan have signed a package of defence procurement contracts worth more than $500 million at ADEX 2026 in Baku, Türkiye’s Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB) President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün announced on 30 September. The deals cover systems built by TUSAŞ, ASELSAN, BAYKAR and ROKETSAN.
The contracts include the HÜRKUŞ trainer and light-attack aircraft, the ALP-100 air surveillance radar, the MIZRAK smart loitering munition, the ANTIDOT electronic warfare system and the BARBAROS coastal defence system. Görgün said the total value of the contracts signed at the exhibition exceeds half a billion dollars. Türkiye is attending the 6th Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition, running from 30 September to 2 October, with 61 companies, its largest national presence at the show so far.
First export for HÜRKUŞ-II
The headline item is aviation. In a live television interview the same day, Görgün confirmed that 14 HÜRKUŞ-II aircraft will be delivered to Azerbaijan, the first export deal for the upgraded variant built by Turkish Aerospace (TUSAŞ). The Turkish Air Force took delivery of its first two HÜRKUŞ-II aircraft on 28 September, and 55 are planned for the national fleet. The aircraft combines a digital cockpit with weapons integration, allowing it to serve both as an advanced trainer and in light attack and close air support roles.
Sensors, strike and coastal defence
- ALP-100 (ASELSAN): a GaN-based AESA early warning radar designed to detect and track low-flying fighters, helicopters, drones and cruise missiles.
- MIZRAK (BAYKAR): an AI-assisted smart loitering munition first shown at SAHA 2026, with a range stated by Baykar at over 1,000 km.
- ANTIDOT (ASELSAN): a family of electronic warfare pods for unmanned aircraft, covering jamming, electronic support and self-protection. The variant ordered was not disclosed.
- BARBAROS (ROKETSAN): a mobile coastal defence battery on an 8×8 armoured vehicle, carrying four ATMACA anti-ship missiles or six ÇAKIR cruise missiles, relevant to Azerbaijan’s long Caspian coastline.
Industrial cooperation
Beyond equipment, the two countries signed an academic cooperation memorandum involving Türkiye’s higher education council, the SSB and Azerbaijan’s defence industry and education ministries. ASELSAN and Azerbaijan’s NOVASIS agreed on a preliminary framework to build a factory in Nakhchivan, while OTOKAR and MKE signed logistics and business development agreements with Azerbaijan’s MİRAS.
Why it matters
Azerbaijan is one of the most committed users of Turkish defence equipment, already fielding the Bayraktar TB2, AKINCI and KARGU. Earlier this month the two navies also advanced cooperation on unmanned naval systems. The ADEX 2026 package moves the relationship into training aviation, air surveillance and coastal defence, and adds local production through the planned Nakhchivan facility.
