T-300 KASIRGA

Turkish 302 mm rocket launcher built by ROKETSAN

The T-300 KASIRGA is a Turkish 302 mm multiple rocket launcher produced by ROKETSAN for the Turkish Land Forces. Derived from China’s WS-1B and in service since around 2000, it fires unguided TR-300 and guided TRG-300 rockets to ranges of up to 120 km and has been exported to Azerbaijan and Bangladesh.

Overview

KASIRGA, meaning ‘hurricane’, grew out of a 1997 cooperation agreement with China’s CPMIEC, under which Türkiye became the first WS-1B customer. ROKETSAN then localised the rocket as the TR-300 and the launcher as the T-300. Four launch tubes sit on a MAN 26.372 6×6 truck weighing about 23 t with rockets loaded. Unguided TR-300 rockets reach about 40–100 km with a 150 kg warhead, and a battery typically has a command vehicle and 6–9 launchers.

The guided KASIRGA K+ uses the TRG-300, which adds INS with GPS/GLONASS. ROKETSAN gives Block-II a 20–90 km range with a 180 kg warhead and Block-III 30–120 km with a 105 kg warhead, both with a CEP of 10 m or less. TRG-300 Tiger is the export system, and the rocket can also be fired from ROKETSAN’s newer multi-calibre launcher. Azerbaijan received about 20 launchers around 2016, and Bangladesh signed a contract in 2019.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the range of KASIRGA?

KASIRGA reaches up to about 100 km with unguided TR-300 rockets and up to 120 km with the guided TRG-300 Block-III, according to ROKETSAN. The Block-II guided rocket covers 20–90 km.

How much does a KASIRGA cost?

ROKETSAN does not publish a unit price for KASIRGA. The main public reference is Bangladesh’s 2019 TRG-300 Tiger contract, reportedly worth about US$60 million, under which 18 launchers in three batteries were delivered by June 2021.

Is KASIRGA Turkish or Chinese?

KASIRGA is produced in Türkiye by ROKETSAN but derived from China’s WS-1B design. Türkiye bought the WS-1B under a 1997 agreement, then localised the rocket and launcher and later added the guided TRG-300.

Which countries use the T-300 KASIRGA?

Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Bangladesh use the KASIRGA family. Azerbaijan received about 20 launchers around 2016, and Bangladesh operates the export TRG-300 Tiger version, with 18 launchers delivered by June 2021.

KASIRGA vs HIMARS: which is better?

HIMARS fires GMLRS rockets to about 70–92 km and ATACMS to 300 km from a lighter, air-transportable truck, while KASIRGA fires four heavier 302 mm rockets to 120 km with TRG-300. HIMARS offers a wider choice of munitions; KASIRGA delivers larger warheads per rocket.

Was KASIRGA used in Karabakh?

KASIRGA was reportedly used by Azerbaijan during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, according to open-source reports. Azerbaijan has not officially detailed its use, so this remains unconfirmed.
