The PLZ-05 is a Chinese 155 mm/52 tracked self-propelled howitzer made by Norinco, in PLA service since around 2008. It has an automatic loader and a claimed range of up to about 53 km.
What Is the PLZ-05? Overview, History and Development
The PLZ-05 became public around 2008 parade imagery and replaced the PLZ-83 and PLZ-89, bringing NATO-calibre firepower to the PLA Ground Force. The 155 mm L52 gun uses an automatic loader and about 30 rounds, with a burst rate of 8-10 rounds per minute claimed. A diesel of about 1,000 hp (reported) gives around 55 km/h and 450 km range at about 35 tonnes.
Range is about 39 km with conventional HE and 50+ km with base-bleed or rocket-assisted shells, with up to about 53 km quoted, a Chinese manufacturer figure. The PLA is the only confirmed operator, with several hundred estimated, and no export is confirmed. The PLZ-45 was exported to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. PLZ-05A and PLZ-05B upgrades are reported but unverified. State media show it in Tibet and southern commands.
