What the F-15EX Adds to the Fleet
The F-15EX is a multirole heavy fighter built on the F-15 design. The Air Force received its first aircraft at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in March 2021. Public descriptions of the jet point to advanced avionics, large-area cockpit displays, a digital backbone architecture and added survivability features.
It is not a stealth fighter, and the Air Force has not presented it as one. The service has pointed instead to payload and range, which suit it to carrying large numbers of long-range missiles. That framing comes from public programme descriptions rather than from this contract announcement.
How the Lots Add Up to 120 Aircraft
| Milestone | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| First aircraft delivered | Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, March 2021 | Defense News |
| Lots 1 to 7 | 120 aircraft under contract in total | Defense News |
| Lot 7 | 22 aircraft for $2.38 billion | Defense News |
| Average per aircraft in Lot 7 | About $108 million (simple division, our calculation) | Derived |
That division is analysis, not an Air Force or Boeing figure, and it should not be read as the price of a single jet. Lot values commonly include spares, support equipment and engineering work.
