Self-Propelled Howitzer
RCH 155
The RCH 155 is a wheeled self-propelled 155 mm howitzer made by KNDS Deutschland in Germany, with first series deliveries to the Bundeswehr from 2025. It mounts an automated gun module on the Boxer 8×8, and Germany plans it as the successor to part of the PzH 2000 fleet.
What Is the RCH 155? Overview, History and Development
The RCH 155 combines the Artillery Gun Module of KNDS Deutschland, formerly Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, with the Boxer 8×8 chassis from ARTEC. A prototype appeared in 2020 and series production began in 2022. The 155 mm L/52 gun is highly automated, with a two-person cab, a loader holding about 30 rounds and a rate of fire of about 8 rounds per minute, with MRSI capability. It weighs about 39 t and reaches 100 km/h on road with a range of about 700 km.
Standard range is commonly cited at about 30 km, up to 40 km with extended ammunition and beyond 54 km with rocket-assisted shells. Germany placed an initial order for 40 and reportedly about 80 in 2025, with larger lots planned. Ukraine has 54 ordered through German funding (reported), the UK selected it for its Mobile Fires Platform (about 72 planned), and Qatar approval for 12 was reported. Only Germany is counted as an operator. Rivals include CAESAR 8×8, Archer, K9 Thunder, PzH 2000 and Zuzana 2.
