Overview

Kurganets-25 was unveiled at the Moscow Victory Day parade in 2015 as the medium platform in a unified family with the T-14 Armata, Boomerang-K and Bumerang. Its engine sits at the front, and an unmanned turret carries a 30 mm 2A42 cannon, a 7.62 mm machine gun and Kornet-type missiles. Crew is three with eight troops, weight about 25 t and engine a UTD-32T of about 510 hp. Armour is steel-composite, with Afghanit-type active protection optional, and the vehicle is designed for transport by Il-76 aircraft.

The programme is still in development and trials. Defence Minister Shoigu said in 2018 it would enter service in 2020, which did not happen, and by 2022–2025 officials spoke of state testing while many sources describe the programme as stalled by sanctions and war costs (hedged). It has no operators beyond trials units and no export orders. Developers cited tens of millions of roubles per vehicle (hedged). The same chassis is planned for APC, command, repair, mine-clearing and engineering versions. Counterparts include the Bradley, Puma, CV90 and Turkish Tulpar.
