What Is the Sukhoi Su-75 Checkmate? Overview, History and Development

Sukhoi and UAC unveiled the Su-75 Checkmate at MAKS in Zhukovsky on 20 July 2021 as an export-oriented companion to the Su-57. The manufacturer claims a maximum speed of Mach 1.8, a ceiling of about 16,200 m, a combat range of about 2,850 km, 7,400 kg of payload and a maximum takeoff weight of about 18,500 kg. These figures are manufacturer claims. The planned engine is the Izdeliye 30, with the AL-41F1 expected on prototypes.

First flight was planned for 2023, then slipped to between 2024 and 2026. Rostec has said flight tests would begin in 2025 to 2026 and serial production by 2027 to 2028, though dates have repeatedly moved. As of October 2026 the type is in development and prototype testing, with no operators. UAC has claimed a price of US$25 to 30 million against about US$80 million for the F-35. Algeria, the UAE, India, Vietnam and Argentina have reportedly shown interest, but no contract is confirmed.
